How to Stay Fit Forever: Tips to Keep Moving When Motivation Slips

Do you feel like a lazy fellow and struggle to wake up for your morning jog? You lack motivation and a goal to keep going. Don’t worry because most of us have passed through that road too. To remain motivated to have a healthy and fit body, you need to set goals to help you improve your body. Nonetheless, you might start off well but lose the momentum in the middle. We all know that we need to do more and keep the candle burning even when motivation slips. Even when passing through life obstacles or when the weather becomes unfavorable, try following these tips and you will be sure never to lose motivation.

Have a Reason for Working Out

In this life, we need motivation for everything we do. You cannot be doing something without knowing what the end goal is. Whether it’s working, starting a family, or going to school, you must know what you want to achieve at the end of it all. The same applies to fitness: have a goal and be determined to achieve it. The good thing is to focus on the immediate positive emotions we get after exercising rather than having vague goals like I want to be fit or lose weight. Be motivated to exercise by focusing on the benefits you get from it, like making friends and reducing stress. One of the ways that can help you prioritize exercise is if it delivers benefits that are valuable to your life.

Have a Slow Start

One of the greatest mistakes people make when trying to get fit is thinking about how they can lose weight or become fit immediately. Don’t jump into everything at once to speed the process; you might lose motivation early in the journey. Imagine changing your lifestyle suddenly and starting exercising, changing your diet, and stopping smoking or drinking. This will make you lose inspiration and get tired fast. Everything in life takes time. Just like how successful business gurus or presidents didn’t just wake up one morning and achieve everything they have, the same applies when trying to get in shape. It takes time for your body to adjust to the new lifestyle for those who have not been fit. If you plan to focus on high-intensive training, do it once or twice a week. Then, focus on slow jogging, fast walks, and swimming, and have at least two rest days for the first month. This gives you a chance to recover. If your training is not highly intensive, you can do it three to four times a week by ensuring you have a rest day between the sessions.

Be Determined For Success

Nobody hates success but it does not come freely; you have to work for it. Several personal life activities may hinder you from working out regular as you are supposed to including work and taking care of the kids. Other health factors like mental or physical illnesses might also interfere with your fitness journey. When you set yourself for success, you will find out what works best for you. You can plan on working out during lunch break whether you are at home or at work. It is even better if you download a workout video of maybe 30 minutes and stick to following it on daily basis. Be determined for success by analyzing your present situation and creating time and finding activity you can easily achieve.

You Don’t Have To Love It

In most cases, the things we don’t like are meant for our own good. For example, nobody likes going to the hospital or taking medicine, but we do it anyway because it is the only way to get us healed if we are sick. Similarly, you don’t have to love exercise, but you must continue doing it knowing the benefits it brings you. Always remind yourself of the reason why you do what you do whether it is enjoyable or not. Although some activities might be enjoyable like when you feel your body getting stronger or when you make new friends at the gym, some might not make you happy like the pain you feel in your muscles after exercising.

Register for a Gym

Being a gym member is one way to keep you disciplined and focused. Although you can train yourself to be focused even at home, attending a fitness center may be more helpful. Register to an exclusive fitness gym to get personal training and other classes to put you into shape. Having a personal trainer who reminds you of your goals and helps you to achieve them is important in the fitness journey. Depending on whether you start with high-intensity exercises or normal exercise, your gym trainer guides you on the number of times you need to visit the gym in a week.

Plan and Prioritize

Many of us are busy taking care of our families and handling two jobs. This means that we might lack time to focus on exercise. However, with proper planning and prioritization, we can create time for exercise. Have an action plan for what, how, and where you are going to undertake your exercise. You can also implement a coping plan by anticipating the things that can get in the way, knowing how to handle them, and getting motivated again. Self-care is crucial; regardless of how busy you are, you always have time for it. Like how you make plans to spend time with your family even if your job is too demanding, make time for exercise. Being fit not only makes you feel good but also helps you focus on other personal activities properly.

In conclusion, fitness is important, but it is also a journey. Just like we know, one can get tired on a journey before getting to the destination, but it is the same case with fitness if you lack motivation and goals. Motivation can sometimes slip, but if we are focused and know what we want, we will keep going. It is important to take it one step at a time. Don’t jump into everything at once with the aim of getting immediate results. This will drain you and take away your morale. Be determined for success even when you fall low and do not enjoy the process for the purpose of the final goal. Finally, plan and prioritize exercise just like you do with other personal activities.
